Colin McEnroe's To Wit
blogs.courant.com/colin_mcenroe_to_wit Colin McEnroe makes it seem like it's the most reasonable thing to turn on the radio, to open the newspaper or visit a blog and expect to find intelligent and funny commentary, to find informed interviews and deep insights. McEnroe is both a smarty-pants and a man of the people. He's Hartford's Charlie Rose, only better. He's our Kurt Anderson. Our Dick Cavett. McEnroe is there when you need him, riffing on Hartford's theater history, dropping allusions to cultural theory, musing on technology and how it's shaping our lives, weighing in on the inanities of state politics, talking food, talking music, talking breaking news, telling us about his trips to Mexico or a night in New York City. The guy doesn't quit; he can do high and low with equal ease. That's why his blog, To Wit, is a must-read spot. "In blogging, you're really trying to create something that's a link that will be passed around, that will be shared," he says. With videos and photos from his radio show, cross-posting on Facebook, McEnroe knows how to turn what would have once been an ephemeral media moment into a durable, clickable trail of interesting bits. He knows too that the creation of a network of like-minded followers -- a salon of the ether -- is as much a core part of what he does as is the writing. As it says on his blog, he writes about "A Little Bit of Everything," and he says he'll write about anything he feels like sharing. 2nd: Gluten Free Vegetarian Connecticut 3rd: Urban Compass
