One of the most colorful, engaging and, yes, fun art exhibitions of the year may fly beneath your radars, if you’re not careful.
It is "Nancy Graves: Inspired Vision", at the Hartford Art School’s Joseloff Gallery, University of Hartford.
Graves is probably best known (rightfully) for her quirky, organic sculptures, some of which look like giant balloon sculptures. The natural forms that she twists and turns and coils around each other defy categorization or description. Bring the kids!
The exhibition is all the more remarkable for including Graves’ paintings and drawings, which are just as colorful, engaging and fun as her sculptures.
This show is a real feather in the cap for the University of Hartford, made all the more commendable for coming at a time when the fine arts are particularly hard hit by the economic woes besetting the nation.
Take time out to enjoy this great show and to bask in the vision of a true artist.
