There's "no planned continuity" to WHUS, says Operations Manager Ben Shaiken, and that means the station literally has everything from jazz to polka to metal to hip-hop, blues and alternative news. "We're a mix of college students and community members, which means we have a lot of experience mixed in with fresh creativity," says Shaiken. "We play off each other. Experienced people teach new people and new people inspire experienced people." WHUS is on the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is open to the public. The station offers a training program three times yearly and after you pass the class you can apply for your own show. The chances of acceptance are directly correlated to how much you volunteer at the station, says Shaiken. "We're a democratically governed station," he says. "We have a voting staff of about 100 students and community members."
