Nelson Diorio began his restaurant career in Rio de Janeiro before coming to the United States as a student many years ago. Instead of going back home to Brazil he decided to stay and got involved in the restaurant business here, first at a restaurant he owned on Franklin Avenue, and now as head chef at Churrascaria Braza. Get ready for a meat fest when you visit Hartford's best Brazilian restaurant. "[The servers] come with meat around the table and slice it," says Diorio. "You can eat as much as you want. There are 14 or 15 different types of beef, chicken, sausage and pork." There's also a huge salad bar, says Diorio, with a wide range of offerings including potato salad, sweet potatoes, couscous, fresh vegetables like beets, and hot items including rice and beans and sweet plantains. "It's a lot of stuff," says Diorio. Churrascaria Braza is located in an old movie-theater building, and has an outside cafe as well as indoor dining.
