Thoroughly Modern Millie in Waterbury

In case you were wondering, Thoroughly Modern Millie never was modern, thoroughly or otherwise. The 2002 Tony-winning comic musical about an ill-fated '20s flapper-in-training was based on a 1967 film with some of the same songs, starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. That in turn was apparently inspired by a largely forgotten 1956 musical called Chrysanthemum.

In any case, even the Broadway show — a breath of fresh nostalgia when it debuted in the wake of 9/11 — has no claim on modernity any more. Does it matter? It'll still flap and flounce finely when it's revived with local talent as part of the annual "Community Summer Stock Collaborative" between Seven Angels Theatre and the Waterbury Palace (100 E. Main St., Waterbury; 203-755-4700, palacetheaterct.org), where it will play for two performances, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. $25–$30.
